Since first opening its doors as an independent clinic in 1996, Burwood Heights Medical Centre has become a trusted destination for family health care in East Burwood and surrounding suburbs.

Burwood Heights Medical Centre can be described as a traditional small GP practice with very much a patient centred care service delivering excellent clinical care and ongoing follow up.

The range of services include COVID, flu and travel vaccines, childhood immunisation, cervical screening, pre-employment and general medicals, blood testing, diabetes management, asthma education and care plans for patients with long term illnesses.

There is also a treatment room for minor procedures and wound management.

The Centre is headed up by two general practitioners in Dr Hemantha Karunaratne and a female, Dr Danushi Ganegoda, who have more than a combined 40 years’ experience in medicine.

One of the co-founders of the clinic, Dr Karu has a special interest in aged care and elderly care management, making regular weekly visits to local nursing homes and aged care facilities.

Dr Ganegoda, who joined the practice earlier this year, specialises is cosmetic procedures and iron infusions.

Practice manager Angie Upton, Carolyn the registered nurse who looks after the management of the COVID vaccines and patient health assessments, and receptionists Mary, Hayam, Stella and Shriya complete the friendly team at the BHMC.

“Due to the recent events of COVID our primary focus has been protecting our patients against coronavirus however, we still maintain a strong focus on the general overall well-being of our patients’ total healthcare needs,” Angie said.

A mixed billing clinic, Burwood Heights Medical Centre, located at 12 Burwood Highway, East Burwood, is open from 7am on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 8.30am on Wednesday and Friday.
