After 15 years working in the IT field, East Burwood entrepreneur Sundar Thangaraj took a chance when branching out into the balloon and party hire business in 2016, and his gamble is starting to pay off.

Sundar launched Balloon Corner solely as an online business.

“During COVID there was a big demand for helium balloons and because people could not leave their homes due to the curfew there was an opportunity to do home deliveries,” Sundar said.

“And the business just grew from there.

“We started small and then we slowly began doing deliveries all over Melbourne.

“With the increasing demand for helium balloons I decided that we couldn’t just can’t concentrate solely on party supplies and we opened up a balloon shop at the Burwood Heights Shopping Centre in May this year.”

Sundar is the managing owner of Balloon Corner and employs a full-time staff member and two casuals.

The business specialises in balloons for birthday parties, weddings, Valentine’s Day, baby showers, gender reveals, themed parties and corporate functions.

“We go out to the homes, venues, restaurants and hospitals and offer ideas and help with the decorations,” Sundar said.

Balloon Corner has balloons in 60 different colours and numbers and letters in 20 colours for all occasions.

“We do a lot of balloons with personalised messages, too,” Sundar stated.

Among other items offered by Balloon Corner are balloon weights for helium balloons, ribbons, candles and party items such as cups, plates and napkins.

Balloon Corner is located at Shop 7, 10-40 Burwood Highway, East Burwood.
