That’s the motto of the Burwood Heights Medical Centre, which has been a trusted destination for family health care in East Burwood and surrounding suburbs since 1996. The range of services includes all vaccines from flu to COVID to all travel vaccines, childhood immunisations, pre-employment and general medicals, blood testing, diabetes management, health assessments, review of medications and care plans for patients with long term chronic health issues.

Burwood Heights Medical Centre has a strong focus on the older generations and preventative health care including immunisations for shingles and pneumonia. It is a single doctor practice founded and proudly owned and operated by Dr Hemantha Karanuratne, fondly known as Dr Karu, who has a keen interest in over-75 years patients and nursing home patients, visiting local nursing homes and aged care facilities three days a week.

“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to treat the whole family. In some cases I have treated three to four generations – the parents, grandparents, the children and sometimes their children,” Dr Karu said.

He heads up an experienced staff including practice manager Angie, who has served in managerial roles at NHS and private clinics in London, and registered nurse Carolyn, who genuinely cares for the well-being of patients and loves the community feel of general practice nursing.

The practice’s team of receptionists have diverse backgrounds with a wealth of experience between them including Mary (Greek), Monica (Chinese), Hayam (Arabic) and Barbara (previously Phlebotomist).

The Centre caters for all standard appointments and over-the-phone consultations for those who are sick at home.
