The Op Shop at the Burwood Heights Shopping Centre not only plays a key role in supporting the RSPCA but is a valuable resource for the community as a whole.

The store opened in 2000 and is currently manned by around 55 volunteers.

It is managed by Pat Yong who has served with the shop for nearly 15 years including nine years as a volunteer team leader and four years as a store manager.

The RSPCA Op Shop is a treasure trove of pre-loved, one-of-a-kind clothes, from retro kitsch to big brand labels at bargain prices, homewares, books, manchester, bric-a-brac and accessories.

All monies raised from the Op Shop are used to help fund the variety of programs and services conducted by the RSPCA.

Liz Irvine, the RSPCA Victoria Op Shop Network Manager, said: “The funds raised at our op shops play a crucial role in supporting our work to end animal cruelty.

“These funds contribute directly to animals in need, including those rescued from neglect, cruelty, or abandonment and provides vital services like veterinary treatment, rehabilitation programs, and rehoming efforts, ensuring that thousands of animals each year receive the care and second chance they deserve.

“The revenue from our op shops also helps to fund important community initiatives, including education programs to promote responsible pet ownership and advocacy efforts to improve animal welfare laws.

“By shopping, donating, or volunteering at an RSPCA Op Shop, supporters are making a tangible difference in the lives of animals while also promoting sustainability through the reuse and recycling of goods,” Ms Irvine said.
