Active Audiology: Wonderful sound for all
Active Audiology, which was established at Burwood Heights Shopping Centre in 2010, has a mission to helping people regain and enjoy the miracle of hearing by providing exceptional audiology services in a compassionate environment for all ages.
An independent private practice, Active Audiology offers the complete range of hearing services including hearing tests, custom made ear plugs, hearing aid fitting and earwax removal.
It also offers patients advice on ringing in the ears and dizziness. The practice is headed up by highly experienced, qualified and caring audiologists Mrs Julia Yannakis and Mrs Naomi Fuertes. Both trained at the University of Melbourne and are members of Audiology of Australia.
Julia has worked as an audiologist for 18 years, having grown up in the eastern suburbs. “A point of difference between us and other clinics is that we are completely independent and that means we are not owned by a hearing aid company,” she said.
“We can fit any brand of hearing aid that we think is suitable for you, so there’s a lot of choice. They’re the real brands, not some of the other companies who seek their own hearing aids where they take off the brand and they can’t be adjusted by anyone. “Active Audiology’s hearing aids are the genuine European brands.”
Active Audiology provide full diagnostic hearing tests and not just screening. “We conduct a full test to check the inner ear, hearing levels, people’s listening goals and how they would like to improve their communication.”
The clinic provide a battery of hearing assessments for children over four years of age for ear infection, glue ears and behavioural issues.
Active Audiology offers assessments and hearing aids for veterans and pensioners free-of- charge. It also manages workplace hearing tests, hearing compensation and pre-employment tests.
Julia said that it’s very important to manage your hearing loss. “It’s been found to be the biggest risk factor for dementia and there is evidence that hearing aids help to reverse some of that risk,” she said.
“It’s all about keeping your hearing fit. If you are using your hearing pathways properly you are actually keeping your brain fit as well.”
Active Audiology is located at 11A/40 Burwood Highway, Burwood East. The clinic is open from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday. Appointments can be made on phone 9888 8855 or online activeaudiology.com.au/appointments.
